Glossolalia Online combines deeply layered hip-hop lyricism, jazz fusion pyrotechnics, and psychedelic electronic textures to create an immersive and multi-faceted listening experience. Since 2022 it has featured Ratarue on vocals, a fixture of the Austin rap scene since the 90s. The core band of keys, bass, and drums is frequently augmented by flute and electric violin.

 

Bandleader and keys player Trevor Villwock draws on his years of experience on the Austin blues and jazz scene and classical composition training to incorporate alternate microtonal tunings, infectious grooves, and live effects processing. Listeners of Flying Lotus and The Mars Volta will feel well at home.

Glossolalia Online began in 2019 as a combination of live free jazz shows and collaborative electronic tracks. That same year, Trevor and Ratarue met while taking part in ATX Flowdown, a series of shows bringing together Austin rappers and jazz musicians to perform with each other.

In 2021 the Liquid Tessellation music video featuring Commodity Creature was included in A2B2 Sunset Fest, a virtual music festival curated in part by Andy Morin of Death Grips. In 2022 Ratarue also began performing live with the band.

 

After the Floating single was released in 2024, 88.7 KAZI featured it on the Untapped Show and host Robyn Wright interviewed Trevor and Ratarue about the song. The group has performed at Sahara Lounge, dadaLab, Antone’s (for Hoots for Help), Hole in the Wall, King Bee, Knomad Bar, Vinyl Beauty Bar, and Kenny Dorham's Backyard among other Austin venues.
